Club History

Abia Angels FC was founded in Aba, Abia State, with a simple but ambitious goal: to give the women and girls of the South East a serious pathway into competitive football. What began as a community training ground for local schoolgirls has grown into one of the more talked-about sides pushing for promotion in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.

The club’s early years were built on grassroots recruitment — scouting talent from secondary school tournaments and local five-a-side leagues across Aba and Umuahia. A dedicated group of coaches and volunteers put together the first proper training structure, using the Enyimba International Stadium pitch whenever it was free.

Over the following seasons, Abia Angels steadily built a reputation for disciplined, attacking football. The club’s colours — maroon and gold — were chosen to reflect the resilience and pride of Abia State, and have since become instantly recognisable on match days, with a small but fiercely loyal fanbase now following the team home and away.

Today, Abia Angels FC competes in the NWFL Nationwide competition with genuine ambitions of Premiership promotion, while continuing to run youth development programmes designed to keep building the next generation of players from within the community that gave the club its start.

Our mission is to develop women’s football in Abia State and across the South East by providing a professional, disciplined environment where talented players can grow — on the pitch and off it — while inspiring the next generation of girls to believe a career in football is possible.
